Costa coffee Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Costa chocolate - Essay ExampleCosta java beanSince coffee retailers in the UK largely depend on coffee producing economies therefore, governments of coffee producing economies also influence the operations of coffee shops in UK. For example, Venezuela was the largest coffee exports however, because of government price controls growers consider growing coffee as not an economicalally feasible option (BBC, 2010). UK government with the support of members of coffee associations is struggling to support the producers of coffee such as through farm certifications, direct- geting initiatives and quality improvement which supports the farmers to improve their station and long term sustainability (British Coffee Association). Economic Population of UK has grown over 60 cardinal nation and in 2006, the total population was 60.6 million as comp atomic number 18d to 55.9 million in 1971. Moreover, it has been estimated that people above 65 years old will be more in number as compared t o individuals below 16 by 2021. Poverty reduction has become an important target for UK and government has been able to lift 2.4 million people out of poverty including 800,000 children and government aims to halve child poverty by 2010 and eliminate poverty by 2020. Economic problems faced by coffee producing economies influence the coffee companies in UK because most of the companies are acquiring coffee from these economies. For example, Uganda farmers are facing increasing level of pests and diseases and extremely harsh weather conditions (Butler, 2011). Around 70 percent of the worlds coffee is grown on area less than 10 hectares and most of the famers, out of 25 million in 50 developing economies that produce coffee, sell coffee in small quantities to local traders, manufacturers or exporters. The manufacturers of Coffee in UK are buying green beans from international trading houses or exporters. However, Government of UK is encouraging the companies to buy coffee direct from the famers to access best quality coffee in the long term (British Coffee Association). Social Consumers are asking for fair deals from suppliers at coffee shops and according to a Concerned Consumer Index Survey, 54 percent of the participants have showed that coffee shops should consider social issues ahead of environmental issues such as treating workers in plantation fairly (Gibbons, 2010). UK Fair trade market has grown from ?493 million in 2007 to ?712.6 million in 2008 and according to survey 72 percent of people are aware that they can buy coffee through fair trade certification. In the period of six months, 36 percent of the people have bought coffee through fair trade and the trend of buying coffee through fair trader is further boosting (Mortimer, 2010). More than 60 million cups of coffee are consumed on average in the UK in one day (British Coffee Association, 2011). The coffee culture is continuously increasing in UK however, because of the economic downturn consumers in the UK were giving preference to drink coffee at homes rather than at coffee shops (Euromonitor, 2011). Consumers in UK are more focusing on taste and quality of coffee and the increasing consumption of coffee at homes is evident from increasing household penetration of coffee pod machines (Euromonitor, 2011). Technological mingled with 2002 and 2005, the UK internet sales to households have increased by

Techniques lab Report Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Techniques - Lab Report ExampleCalculations performed on the changes in mass revealed that the experimental mass of the NaCl was 1.464 g. The -1.942% erroneousness between the two results was attributed to experimental errors arising from the improper use of the pipets during the transfer of the solution to the evaporating dish for heating. The results obtained showed that the difference in the masses between the expected and experimental results to be small (-0.029 g), resulting in a relatively small % error of -1.942%. The % error was caused by systematic errors resulting from improper use of the pipet during the transfer on the 25 mL NaCl solution to the evaporating dish. Minute air bubbles might have been sucked together with the NaCl solution, resulting in a reduced amount of NaCl being heated at the end, indeed lowering the final mass. The pipet used in the experiment has a precision of uncertainty of 0.01 mL therefore the 25 mL taken from the volumetric flask was between 24.9 9 mL 25.01 mL. This uncertainty is relatively low, making the pipets readings relatively precise, thus reducing the chances of random errors resulting from observational mistakes during the filling up of the pipet.a. Filling the 100 mL volumetric flask beyond the mark would lead to a lower actual (experimental) molarity. This is because adding more water will coif the solution more dilute, thus lowering the molarity.b. The density of the solution would decrease if the volumetric flask was topped beyond the mark because the density if governed by the reflexion Density = Mass / Volume1. Therefore, increasing the volume would lead to a subsequent decrease in the density.a. Having the liquid level in the pipet being on a lower floor the line would lead to a reduction of the mass of the NaCl obtained after the subsequent heating because the amount of NaCl pipet is less than the required amount.c. Using the pipet to crawl in the NaCl solution to

Explain in your own words the difference between the three paradigms Essay

Explain in your own words the difference between the three paradigms - Essay interpreterThe interactive paradigm caters for relationships and interactions between different stakeholders in the care for environment. In particular, this paradigm encompasses the interactions and relations between nurses and their patients or clients. On the same note, the paradigm integrates nursing systems into the interactive unconscious process. In other words, the interactive paradigm explores and explains how patients/clients relate with their nurses, as well as how these two parties fit into the larger nursing practice. Finally, the unitary process paradigm seeks to account for the entire nursing environment by bringing every party involved in nursing practices into a common pussycat of change units. This paradigm unites practitioners, patients/clients, and the nursing setting in a way that goes beyond common interactions and relations. This paradigm fits my nursing philosophy because it acknow ledges the role of change in nursing practices. In this respect, practitioners, patients/clients, and the nursing environment unite to make nursing practices more effective and efficient. In the process, the outcome exhibits improved performance that benefits the entire theater of operations of

Philosophy of Assessment Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Philosophy of Assessment - Term Paper ExampleThis essay considers my personal philosophy of assessment. One of the primary considerations I greet in terms of assessment is developing a means of judging student participation and effort throughout the marking periods and course. One of the primary challenges I had when originally considering assessment was the nature of developing assessment strategies that are student specific, or measure objective metres of comprehension. While ideally classrooms are constituted by students of the same level of achievement, in reality this is not always the case. Early in my teaching career I recognized that I would have to suck in the difficult decision of requiring all students to achieve the same level of achievement. From this foundational level I then began to design assessment strategies that required students to achieve an objective standard of accomplishment. In these regards, I have been greatly influenced by constructivist theory of asse ssment, specifically a text Understanding by Design. This text contends that assessment should be intentional from a top-down structure with the end goal in mind. Working from this theory, each semester I considered the ultimate objective for the course and then worked back from that in developing assessment strategies that would work as standards bearers for the marking period. Still, I recognize that this approach to assessment should only be used to construct a full general approach to curriculum development. As is later demonstrated, the most effective instruction and assessment will consider the learners background knowledge and phenomenological mountain range of the acquire material in developing dynamic and multi-varied assessment mechanisms. In addition to these constructivist approaches to assessment, I have become more accountly acquainted with direct methods of assessment. Its indicated that one of the primary such means of demonstrating direct assessment strategies is through the teachers active involvement in student learning. In these regards, the teacher a) presents information, b) develops concepts through lecture, c) requires students to recite or respond to questions, d) provides feedback and reteaching as necessary (Payne 63). In terms of my own assessment strategies, I implement direct methods in a variety of ways. After determining the end of course objective I would then break down the marking period into manageable units (chapters). inside each of these units (chapters) there would be a final exam and provezes. The quizzes were implemented in large part as a means of motivating students to hold on consistent with scholastic work throughout the chapter. In these regards, oftentimes I approached quiz grades with a more lenient approach than I did the chapter tests. The student quiz scores also functioned to aid me in identifying areas of student promotion that are more in need of attention. Indeed, student quiz assessment was a lea rning process for the students as well, giving them an early idea of elements of the text that they must further study. With the final exam then students had to demonstrate their mastery of the material. Rather than work as a learning aid, the final exam existed solely for the purpose of measuring the students achievement in relation to the objective progress they made within the specific unit. Through research I have discovered a

Motivational Problem Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Motivational Problem - Term Paper ExampleBrown noted that she could be a supervisor within five years. After three years however, Ms. Brown retired and was replaced by Susan Rodgers, previously a Manager of Customer Service from a competitive health care organization. Ms. Rodgers manifested a leadership style that is autocratic and task oriented. She focused on adherence to policies and procedures, particularly in emphasizing sanctions for violating these policies. She did not recognize backers exemplary performance and instead, criticized her openly and negatively. Ms. Rodgers, was a friend of Carrie Fischer, Angels colleague, her contemporary in terms of serving the same(p) length of service but who showed lower productivity and performance than Angel. Ms. Rodgers promoted Carrie to the supervisor for the department, much to Angels surprise. From then on, Angel manifested a lack fervor for her work, opted to become absent as much as she can, and failed to manifest the same level of performance during the time when Ms. Brown headed the department. Theory of Motivation Using Herzbergs motivation- hygiene surmise (Herzberg, 1996), it could be deduced that Ms. Rodgers failed to provide motivational factors such as the need to recognize achievement, responsibility, growth and professional advancement through exhibiting her leadership style. Frederick Herzbergs motivation-hygiene theory suggests that the factors involved in producing job satisfaction are separate and distinct from those that lead to job dissatisfaction. By focusing more on company policies, supervision, sanctions for violations of policies, Ms. Rodgers provided hygiene factors that must be present to prevent dissatisfaction but are limited in their potential to provide a positive incentive. Likewise, by promoting Carrie Fisher, she exhibited unfair readiness for just and reliable performance evaluation that contributed to low morale and low productivity for Angel, and possible to the other cus tomer service staff. Theory to Describe an preventive To motivate employees, particularly Angel, in this situation, the theory that could be used to address the dilemma is also the motivation-hygiene theory by focusing instead on the motivators. Angel should opt to elevate her concern to higher management in terms of questioning the decision of Ms. Rodgers to promote Carrie Fisher instead of her. Her performance evaluation, as be during the time of Ms. Brown would attest her superiority over Carrie. However, she should be warned not to be demotivated and not to absent herself from work. Doing so would compromise her performance and indicate a negative feedback and would justify Ms. Rodgers promoting Carrie. Management should effectively evaluate the problem and focus on motivating their personnel through recognizing the employees exemplary performance, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth through just and equitable promotions which are all consistent with H erzbergs motivation-hygiene theory. Likewise, Herzberg actually proposed job enrichment strategies (Herzberg, 1981) by making the job challenging and meaningful. Herzbergs model is deemed to be more specific in providing a framework by which these needs can be satisfied in the work setting.
